My Teaching Philosophy

Thursday, April 30, 2009

My philosophy is to teach each child to the best of my ability. I will try my best teach every student as best that I can no matter race, gender, or handicap. I hope to have a fun classroom that is accepting of all students. I want to apply everything I have learned in school and what I can learn and explore on my own to my classroom. I hope that my students will want to come to my class every morning and that I will have new, fun, and exciting things for them to learn and participate in. I hope to educate myself constantly to keep in tune with the new ways that students are learning and that are age appropriate. Just from being in this class I have learned so many ways to incorporate technology into the classroom which I think is important in this day and age. I knew before that it was important because students today learn differently now than before and it is just a fact of learning how to incorporate it for my future students. I have received lots of new ideas, free ways of finding and using tools, and actually how to incorporate it to help the student learn.

Google

This semester we focused a great deal on google. Google has so much to offer and it is free. I have never used google before and i really had no experience with google at all. I had another email address that i used so I have never even explored it. We have learned so much and I really wish that I would have know about it before. You can make documents, spreadsheets, power points, etc. on this site and it is all free. I will definately use this in the future because you can access it anywhere. We also learned about igoogle and we had a page that we customized ourselves where can access our interests quickly.

Technoloy In My Future Classroom

will definitely incorporate technology into my classroom. I think that it is very important in classrooms today unlike the traditional ways of the past. I have learned many things in my EDM310 class semester on different ways to use technology in the classroom. I have learned about all the free techniques out there and how to search and find almost anything you could ever need or want online. We have learned about igoogle and it is a free and easy way to use the internet with your students. We learned about google and its basic you can do everything without having to buy the expensive programs. We learned about Twitter and many other online sources. You can get on utube and learn about almost anything in and how to videos on so many things. We also learned about itunes university where you can get on and here lectures from actual professors which you can use to teach in the classroom. We learned how to do a podcast but most importantly how to listen and watch podcast which is a great learning tool in for me myself and in my classroom. I can look up so many different things and find out so much information students can do this also. We also had to participate in a weekly blog and a professional blog on blogspot.com. This is a great tool for the classroom! I actually found the teacher that I communicated with on blogspot. She hasa webpage for her classroom that he parents can access to find out what is going on in their child's classroom. There are just so many things out there you jst have take a little time to sit down and look!

Twitter

I have learned a lot about Twitter this semester. Before we were assigned Twitter as a requirement for this class I had heard a lot about it but was not that interested in it. I thought that it was something that a lot of celebrities had gotten into and it was something more for them than regular people. I am very glad that we were assigned to learn about Twitter because I think there are a lot of uses for it! I have learned about Twitter by actually getting on there and exploring the website and exploring other peoples pages and seeing what they have on there pages that I did not know about before. I also read the information that was on the class blog about Twitter that other students and teachers suggested to help learn more about Twitter. I also was in class on all the days that we learned about Twitter and Dr.Strange and my classmates have helped me learn some things about Twitter. I get on Twitter pretty much every day and will post my thoughts at that time to everyone in general. I also will comment on other people that I follow comments. I think that Twitter can be very useful in a classroom in that you can have discussions with your students for classroom assignments. I was also talking to the teacher I have been discussing things with and she suggested that since she is a kindergarten teacher and her students obviously can not use this that she wanted me to educate her more on what Twitter was because she wants to use it to communicate with her students parents. I think that this is such a great idea and I never would have thought about that. She wants to update the parents on what is going on and what she is thinking coming up and getting their opinions on that through Twitter. I think it is cool that I could actually teach her something. I definitely think that I will use this in the future when I become a teacher!

Experience I have that will contribute to making me a better teacher

I am hoping to graduate in Fall 2010 and I am hoping that I can gain lots of insight to be a great teacher. I love children and have had lots of experience with them. I have worked at St.Pius X daycare for 2 years. I work with the Pre-K 3 children and I absolutely love it. Although I do not do a lot of teaching it has given me a really good opportunity to with children and learn more about them. Before working at the daycare I worked at UMS Wright Preparatory School and an extended care teacher. I worked with the first and second grade group. I loved working there because the kids were a lot of fun. I helped them with their homework and did activities with them until their parents came to pick them up. I also would help in the 3rd-5th room and I enjoyed working with all of these age groups. I feel like I have had experience working with Pre-K children all the way up to fifth grade and I think that it is something goof that I can contribute and have experience when I start working. I really feel like my experience working with children has given me a slight advantage to knowing how they react to things and how to deals with some situations.
